University of the Third
Age - U3A
The U3A are a national group with a very active Leighton Linslade section.
The name comes from the division of people's lives into four stages. The first
age is young people in full-time education; the second is when money and time
may not be so plentiful such as when a family and other commitments come along.
The third age, which for most people means retirement, finds many people who are
still active and independent but without many of the ties of the second age. The
kids may have left home, the mortgage may be smaller or paid and full time work
has finished.
This is the opportunity to study and learn more about the subjects you have
always been interested in but never had the time to pursue.
However the U3a is more than just study, they have a lively and varied program
of activities. For example guest speakers give talks on all subjects, history,
travel, their lives and experiences. Visits to museums, galleries and stately
homes are organised and much more
The Leighton Linslade group produce a highly entertaining and informative
newsletter with details of what’s going on in the area
They meet at Brooklands School, Brooklands Drive on the 3rd Wednesday of each
month at 2.15 pm. Visit their
website for details.
