Distraction burglaries warning.
There have been a number of distraction burglaries in Leighton Buzzard and surrounding district lately and the Police are warning elderly householders to be on their guard. These people tend to target the older resident and pose as water officials or council workmen to trick their way into the premises. Householders are being advised to follow the 'STOP - CHAIN - CHECK' rule.
STOP: Are you expecting anyone, have they made an appointment.
CHAIN: Make sure your door chain is on before opening the door.
CHECK: Check the identification of the caller, ask to see their badge or pass.
If you have even the slightest doubt do not let them in.
