Places to visit around Leighton Buzzard

There is a lot to do for the whole family in and around Leighton Buzzard. Here is a list of local places of interest, some close by and some a little further away but all can be visited there and back in a day.



Things to do in Leighton Buzzard

Grand Union Canal
The Grand Union canal runs from London to Birmingham and passes through Linslade. Countryside walks can be taken along the towpath in both directions. Canal cruises can be booked or canal boats may be hired from local companies.

Leighton Buzzard Railway
This narrow gauge railway runs for five and a half miles from the station in Pages Park, Billington Road. The railway uses restored steam engines and is great fun for steam enthusiasts and children.

Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre
Two indoor swimming pools (one with variable base), 2 squash courts, an all weather sports pitch, tennis and netball courts, sports hall, roller skating, badminton, fitness training centre and a bar/café.

Bluebell Wood
Take a stroll through the woods, especially pretty in spring when the bluebells are flowering. Just off Stoke Road, at the edge of  Linslade

Parks
There are parks and childrens playgrounds throughout the Leighton Buzzard. The two largest are:

Pages Park on Billington Road with children's amusement area, pavilion, cricket pitch, 3 tennis courts, Basketball court, 3 Association football pitches and a Croquet Lawn.

Parsons Close Recreation Ground. in the town centre close to All Saints' Church with children's amusement area paddling pool, bandstand and flower gardens. There is a purpose built skate park for older children. During the summer there are free summer band concerts.

Ouzel Meadows
Country walk on the edge of Leighton Buzzard in 34 acres of flood meadows with ancient pollard willows and rare black poplars.
Access over a river bridge from Riverside Walk and from the Grand Union Canal towpath You can also walk along the River Ouzel from Bridge Street to Plantation Road.

Stockgrove Country Park
Beautiful walks through this 40 acre park situated just outside the town at Heath and Reach. With a lake, woodland walks and picnic area. Facilities include - access for disabled, information centre, snack bar, car park and toilets.

Tiddenfoot Waterside Park
33 acres of walks, cycle path and lake. Mentmore Road, Linslade.

Bletchley Park
This fascinating attraction is only 30 minutes drive from Leighton Buzzard. The WWII top secret code breaking site is now open to visitors. See the famous enigma machine, exhibitions, vintage vehicles, Churchill memorabilia, computer museum, model railway plus much more. Wander in the grounds, past the lake, take a look inside the mansion or pick up a period souvenir from the gift shop. There is even a 1/5 scale MkVII U-Boat used in the feature film Enigma.

Dunstable Downs

Gullivers Theme Park
Theme park for children with rides for all ages, theatres with live performances, restaurants and snacks. Livingstone Drive, Newlands, Milton Keynes. Tel: 01908 609001. 30 minute drive from Leighton Buzzard.

Roald Dahl Children's Gallery
Part of the Buckinghamshire County Museum this is a great place for the kids. Lots of hands-on-exhibits and activities.

Waddesdon Manor
One of the finest Victorian gardens in Britain with walks, fountains and statuary.
